Responses to residents about the issues resulting from the school sports day and an update on the Local Government Review and its implications

Local government reorganisation across Nottinghamshire is going ahead, with the existing district and county councils being replaced by two new unitary authorities.
A unitary authority is a single council responsible for all local government services, replacing the current two-tier system of district and county councils.
The new Nottinghamshire Council will cover Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, together with parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.
A separate Greater Nottingham Council will cover Nottingham City and the remaining parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.
What happens next?
For residents, nothing changes immediately. Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council will continue to operate and provide local services as they do now until the new arrangements formally come into effect on 1 April 2028. Until then, residents should continue to access council services in exactly the same way as they do at present.
The District Council elections due to take place in May 2027 have been cancelled. Instead, residents will elect councillors to the new unitary authority. Those newly elected councillors will initially help prepare the new council, putting the necessary arrangements in place before it takes full responsibility for delivering services from April 2028.
Parish Council elections are still expected to take place in May 2027 as necessary.
There is still a great deal of detail to be worked through before the new system is introduced, including how local representation and decision-making will operate under the new arrangements and how the transition from the existing councils will be managed. This work will take place over the coming months. For the time being, however, residents do not need to do anything differently and the councils they currently deal with will remain in place.
As further information becomes available and the arrangements become clearer, the Parish Council will continue to keep residents informed. We will provide relevant updates through the Community Magazine and our usual Parish Council communications, particularly where there are developments which directly affect our villages or the services residents use.
