Norton and Cuckney Village Hall Update

Update from the Chair, Conor Marples regarding the renovation of the village hall

Published: 29 October 2024

Norton and Cuckney Village Hall recently had another couple of fantastic fundraising events, but even though the Winter months are setting in, the trustees will be hard at work to continue to restore this much-loved community asset.

I’d like to thank everyone who helped organise and  attended our two events in September. Whether you were winning on the craft fair tombola or dancing the night away at our music event, it was great to see the hall in use again. Thank you also for your feedback and encouragement; we, as a charity, are taking everything on board.

I’d like to thank Cathy, along with  everyone who prepared and purchased a tea box in October for supporting the Village Hall’s fundraising efforts. We’ll also have a small stall at the Christmas Tree Festival and the hall will be open on the day if you need to use the facilities.

Unfortunately, the Winter months limit our use of the hall, but Zumba will be continuing on a Tuesday evening regardless.

We also plan to use the next few months to reflect on our fundraising activities over the year, so that future events are of the highest quality and enjoyable for all. We aim to kick-off our 2025 schedule by coinciding with Village Halls week, which runs from the 17th to the 23rd of March. If you like pie, peas and a quiz, Friday the 21st March 2025 is the day for you!

As well as fundraising events, the charity has been preparing applications for grants to help fund major works required to the building. To have a building that can serve everyone in the community all year round, nearly every aspect of the hall will need some sort of attention.

We have already approached local businesses to provide quotes for the work that will be required to the Village Hall. We’d like to thank everyone who has provided information or advice to us so far and for confirming that are aims are achievable.

As with most grant applications, we require at least three quotes. So, if you run a local business, we would be grateful for your time to provide a quote or advise. If you can help or have any recommendations of a business that can, please contact myself or one of the trustees.

We would also like to hear what the community would like the hall to be used for, as this will help us decide our priorities. If you have a fundraising idea, would like to see the hall used for a certain activity, or would just like to lend a helping hand, we would be more than happy to hear from you.

Thank you for your support, I look forward to hearing from and seeing many of you over the next few months.
