Chairman / Councillor
Cllr. Nancy Wright
Cllr. Nancy Wright
Nancy was elected to the Parish Council in May 2023 and has served as Chairman of the Council since November 2023; prior to the establishment of the current Parish Council, Nancy served on the prior authority of Norton and Cuckney Parish Council.
After studying History at the University of London, Nancy initially trained to be a librarian at the Senate House Library in Malet Street, before changing course and working in the Meetings Department at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
After designing a database to record and categorize all the talks given at Chatham House in its long history, Nancy was subsequently drafted into the fledging IT Department at the Institute and learned to build and set up computers, networks and support staff in a time when computing looked very different to now.
A few years later, Nancy was head-hunted by a company in the City of London, which designed fund-raising and membership software for charities. She worked on the support desk and gradually became senior support liaison for some of the biggest charities in the country. She then moved on to software testing and quality assurance on the same software.
Nancy then moved on to become the Database Manager for the General Office of the Samaritans. This broadened her experience in the areas of charity funding, gift aid management and grant-giving organisations.
After a period of illness, Nancy became a home-maker. After studying Italian as a hobby for many years, she taught Italian at the U3A and also did casualty make-up for hospital trauma courses, the army and emergency services (having learned her trade while volunteering for many years with St. John Ambulance).
Since moving to Cuckney with her husband, she has joined the Parish Council. She feels welcomed here and is keen to put back into the community. Initial work with the Jubilee Community Garden in Cuckney has led on to many other projects.
