Councillor
Cllr. Matthew Evans
Cllr. Matthew Evans
Matthew was co-opted by the Parish Council at its Full Council meeting held in June 2023. Matthew currently serves on the Human Resources Committee and the Cuckney Car Park Explotorary Committee.
Before his co-option, Matthew was a Parish Councillor and Chairman of Nether Langwith Parish Council (2018-2023). During his tenure, Matthew was responsible for modernising the Council’s structure, processes and image. He introduced the first quarterly newsletter for residents, establishing the Council’s first official online presence both by establishing its .GOV.UK domain and founding its Facebook page which is now the leading local source of information within the Parish.
In addition, Matthew was responsible for installing a new life-saving defibrillator at the Parish Hall and for installing the now-established village green flag pole. Finally, Mattehw’s proudest achievements on the Parish Council were his initiative to begin development and consultation on Nether Langwith’s first Neighbourhood Plan, and his work in modernising the Council’s processes and bringing it up to best practice, which enabled the Parish Council to rapidly react to the COVID-19 pandemic and was able to leave the Council in better financial shape than what he found it while also freezing Council Tax for three years.
Outside of the Council, Matthew worked for local Member of Parliament Brendan Clarke-Smith and is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Langwith Society, Trustee of the Villages of Welbeck Association and Director of the Conservative Parish Council’s Network.
Matthew is a passionate advocate for localised democracy and ensuring that Councils adhere to the highest levels of standards to ensure both efficient delivery of services and accountable decision-making.
