Parish Walking Group

Published: 15 February 2024

The Parish Walking Group was founded in February 2024 by Cllr Gemma Palmer, Gemma founded the group as part of her passion for exploring the great outdoors and keeping fit. Gemma regularly undertakes solo hikes across the country, as well as with her family and friends.

Gemma wants local residents to take ownership of the untapped natural beauty of the surrounding countryside, which we are privileged to live within, promoting general fitness, improving mental health and physical wellbeing, all while socialising and making memories for local residents.

The Group takes advantage of the outstanding natural beauty found within the Welbeck Estate and the neighbouring Clumber Park area, connecting themselves with the local area’s natural and intrinsic history.

The Group is eager to share this experience with new members; while currently, the majority of the group is comprised of residents from within the Parish, there are a growing number of participants coming along from surrounding areas.

We have had many adventures and walks day/night, near and far.  We have walked through Welbeck Estates, Clumber Park, Poulter County Park, Local Woodland Trails, Creswell Crags to the Peak District to name just a few.

Walks are designed on peoples abilities, preferences and weather patterns, taking up the best of what our country has to offer seasonally.

The Group meets at least one day a month or more regularly around 6:00PM at various starting locations and days around the Parish and its surrounding areas; the walks are generally 5-7 miles long and are done at a brisk pace.

Longer routes will be arranged around lighter nights and summer months. Routes can be tailored to individual needs, just let the group know

Dogs are also welcome so long as they are kept on leads and respect the local environment.

Anyone who would like to join us in future walks and adventures, request to join the WhatsApp group on 07305832402 where you can find out when and where we are planning to walk next.
